32nd Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet
We can’t wait to watch over 1,000 talented kids swim this weekend at the 32nd Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet sponsored by DC Parks and Recreation and the Office of Mayor Muriel Bowser. This is an amazing opportunity for swimmers to face some of the toughest competition of the year while meeting young Black swimmers from around the world. That’s right! The Black History Invitational Swim Meet invites swim teams from all over the world!
This year’s meet will take place at the Takoma Aquatic Center located at 300 Van Buren St NW Washington DC 20012 February 16 – 18. Even if you don’t plan to swim – you should plan to come, watch and cheer! In a sport that lacks diversity (USA Swimming’s membership is less than 2% African American), the Black History Invitational Swim Meet gives young Black swimmers a chance to build friendships and encourage one another to continue in the sport. This meet says to the world; ‘We are not alone! We will continue to excel in this sport!’
Although it is too late to register your swimmer for this year’s meet (sorry – no deck entries allowed) it is NOT too late to attend, meet others in the Black Kids Swim community, and cheer on participating swimmers. When you come to the meet, we hope you’ll stop by the Black Kids Swim booth as well. And remember to register for the 33rd Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet in 2019!!
